LGU GERONA GRANTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO 45 STUDENTS

With education a priority concern of the municipality, LGU Gerona awarded scholarship grants to 45 indigent and deserving students.

Bannered on the theme “Yaman ng magulang ang edukasyon ng bawat anak”, Dr. Rustico Cruz, municipal consultant in education, announced this year’s high school and college scholars in a ceremony held at the municipal lobby.

In his message to the scholars, Cruz said, “pagbutihin ninyo ang inyong pag-aaral. Kayo na lamang ang pinakanatatanging yaman ng inyong mga magulang.”

Thirty high school students and 15 college freshmen composed this year’s batch of new scholars.

The new scholars were screened based on three criteria: general average (30%), results of the Municipal Aptitude Exam (30%), and Credit Investigation (40%). The scholars had to be endorsed by their respective punong barangay, of good moral standing and had an average of 83%.

In a letter sent to the scholars, Mayor Dennis Norman Tañedo Go congratulated them for passing screening and were told that they were entitled to full-scholarship grants on their choice of school in Tarlac.

Go, who is serving his second term as mayor of Gerona, authored the ordinance that provides for scholarship grants to deserving but indigent students during his incumbency as vice mayor.

Beside the new scholars, the municipality pledged to continue to support the “old” scholars.

Dr. Cruz said the 91 high school and 35 college scholars will continue to get their educational grants as long as they maintain a grade of 83 for high school or 3.0 for college scholars.
