ELEM SCHOOL OFFICERS VISIT LGU GERONA
“Maging responsible, maging mapagmahal sa trabaho’t mga tao, maging modelo ng mga magagandang pag-uugali, at dapat maging makadiyos.”
These were the words of Mayor Dennis Norman Tañedo Go to the officers of the Supreme Pupil Government of the Gerona North Central Elementary School during the opening ceremony of the program “A Visit to the Municipality of Gerona” last February 1.
The LGU Gerona invited the GNCES-SPGO officers as part of the municipality’s development of human capital program and to prepare future leaders among young students.
Eleven young officers aged 9-12 years old were part of the GNCES-SPGO delegation.
The GNCES-SPGO included Mayor Jereco Sanchez (also the Division’s Assistant Secretary); Vice Mayor John Matthew Desiderio; Secretary Rachel Mae Bautista; Treasurer Zolo Lomboy; Auditor Kathleen Lomboy; Public Infomation Officer Mary Grace De Leon; Peace Officer Maria Alliona Bumagat; and Councilors Grendel Galan, Raven Anne Canlas, Aubreyan Chelsee Solis, and Ivy Ibias.
The group that visited 17 departments and offices from 8:30 AM-5:00 PM were joined in by GNCES Principal Rosalinda Ibarra and Dr. Rustico Cruz, political consultant of the office of the mayor.
“Nakakapagod pala ang maging opisyal ng bayan,” said SPGO Vice Mayor Desiderio when asked how his experience working as temporary municipal official turned out.
“Lalo na ‘yung nakakangawit na session ng pagpasa ng resolusyon at ordinansa, hindi pala madali…pero babalikan kita (referring to the position).” SPGO Vice Mayor added.
On the other hand, SPGO Mayor Sanchez had a different response.
Sanchez said, “hindi mahirap maging engineer kasi kung gusto mo talaga ang isang gawain makakahanap ka lagi ng madaling paraan.”

The SPGO officers when asked about what they had learned from the one day visit said they learned the importance of public health, honesty in handling public funds, public service, alertness in the performance of duties, and exercising one’s rights as citizen.
As final activity, the SPGO officers met with Mayor Go and SB Members to assess and evaluate the results of the first ever visit to municipality project.
Mayor Go commended GNCES for ‘Project Sako’ and promised to support such worthy projects for other communities to benefit from.
Go said he intends to have another round of “A visit to the Municipality of Gerona” in September with high school students as guests.
The GNCES-SPGO received gifts of appreciation for their visit to municipality and had souvenir photo shots with the mayor and the SB members.
“Nawa’y nabusog kayo dito (pointing to the brain), at dito (pointing to the heart),” Mayor Go said. |
