Sometimes would be husbands and wives meet each other for the first time only during the wedding the day. The Chinese man actuations didn’t seem favorable to the parents of a woman. Besides it was claimed by other that Chinese do not make good husbands because their traditional customs of holding the purse of the family. Angered by frequent visit of the Chinese suitor, the father of the woman plan to stop the man once in for all. He asked someone to mob the Chinese. The Chinese was unaware of the plan so he continued to see the maiden.
One day, when he was about a few meters a way from the maiden’s house, he was beaten up almost to death. When he was asked of what happen to him, all he could utter was “Malu Sy” because he could not speak the dialect well. He could not tell the complete sentence of “Minalu da Ni Sy” which means “They had beaten up Sy”. Sy was the Chinese name and Malu was Minalu for short. So from that time on the Barrio had been called Malusi.
This name however, did not last long, for its meaning was so indicent to the Ilocano. Years later when the oldest and richest member of the Antonio Family became the Chief of the Barrio changed the name of the Barrio to SAN ANTONIO. Later on, because of its name, the people made Saint Anthony De Padua their Patron Saint.
